A functioning aircraft has the potential to change our perception of time: long distances can be covered within a short period. Once an aircraft is no longer operational, however, this relationship is reversed. Time begins to act upon the aircraft itself through corrosion, rust and decay.
Concept
The aircraft are therefore not presented as machines that could still fly or function. Instead, the project acknowledges that they once possessed this ability. Their individual histories, ageing materials and deteriorating bodies become part of the exhibition rather than something to be concealed.
The building can consequently be understood as a kind of cemetery, sharing a relationship with time similar to that of the aircraft it contains.
Site / Spatial Strategy
This relationship between aircraft, ageing and time becomes one of the main generators of the project. The characteristics of the site are used as parameters through which the spatial organization, exhibition areas and architectural experience are shaped.
